Written Instructions β€” Dropper Loop

  1. Start mid-line Work in the middle of the line β€” both ends will continue.
  2. Form a large loop Fold a 3–4 inch loop in the middle of the line.
  3. Twist the loop 6 times Pass the loop through itself 6 times to build the barrel of twists.
  4. Pass original loop top through center Hold twists open and pass the bight through the center of the twisted section.
  5. Pull both ends Wet and pull firmly. Loop pops upright perpendicular to the main line.

Tips for Tying a Dropper Loop

  • More twists give a stiffer, more perpendicular dropper β€” use 8–10 twists for a very stiff dropper.
  • Wet thoroughly before pulling β€” friction can weaken monofilament if it heats up.
  • Space dropper loops at least 18 inches apart so hooks don't tangle.
  • A dropper loop tied in fluorocarbon produces a very stiff, fish-attracting dropper.
