Written Instructions — Blood Knot
- Overlap lines Hold both lines parallel with 6 inches of overlap, both tag ends pointing the same direction.
- Wrap Line A five times Take Line A's tag end and make 5 wraps around Line B toward the center, then thread back through the center gap.
- Wrap Line B five times Mirror Line A: wrap Line B 5 times around Line A in the opposite direction, threading through the center gap in the opposite direction.
- Thread both tags through center Both tags now point in opposite directions through the center gap.
- Wet and pull Moisten thoroughly, pull both main lines firmly to compress the wraps into a neat barrel. Trim tags flush.
Tips for Tying a Blood Knot
- Both lines must be within one or two line weights — blood knots fail when diameters differ significantly.
- Five wraps each side is standard. Use four wraps for lines heavier than 15 lb.
- The two tag ends must exit the center gap in OPPOSITE directions — if both point the same way the knot will slip.
- Tighten slowly and evenly — rushing creates uneven coils and weak spots.
