Written Instructions — Uni Knot
- Thread through ring Pass 6 inches of line through the ring or eye. Double it back parallel to the main line.
- Form a loop Fold the tag end back to form a loop alongside both the tag and main line strands.
- Wrap 6 times Wrap the tag end around both strands and through the loop 6 times, winding away from the ring.
- Wet and slide to ring Moisten thoroughly. Pull the main line to slide the coils toward the ring.
- Seat and trim Seat the knot firmly against the ring. Trim the tag end to 1/8 inch.
Tips for Tying a Uni Knot
- Six wraps is standard for 10–20 lb line. Use 5 for heavier line, 7–8 for lighter line under 8 lb.
- The uni knot on braided line requires extra wraps (8–10) because braid is slipperier than mono.
- Two uni knots facing each other make an excellent line-to-line connection — the double uni.
- Unlike many knots, the uni allows a small loop before seating — useful for lures that need action.
